۱- Amazon is developing smart glasses with Alexa support, according to Financial Times sources; full details are unclear but the device would use bone conduction so that the wearer wouldn’t need to use headphones; Amazon is also working on a security camera that pairs with the Echo Show; it’s unclear if or when the devices will launch.
۲- Taiwan-based electric scooter firm Gogoro raises $300M Series C from Temasek and others; the firm provides scooters with swappable batteries in several cities including Berlin and Paris; raised $450M to date.
۳- SpaceX files for a trademark on the Starlink brand for a satellite network; SpaceX plans to use the satellites for consumer broadband services and for earth imaging; in 2015, Elon Musk estimated it would take five years to deploy the company’s constellation of low-orbit satellites.
۴- Portioned food and recipe delivery company MissFresh raises $230M Series C (second tranche) led by Tiger Global and Genesis Capital; provides fresh produce, fish, eggs, more; promises delivery within two hours of order; raised more than $400M to date.
۵- Swedish podcast platform Acast raises $19.5M from Ny Teknik, Microcap, others; provides broadcasters with hosting, distribution, monetization, analytics, more; provides consumer apps for discovering and listening to podcasts; raised more than $32M to date.
۶- Tesla is working with AMD to develop its own AI processor, according to a CNBC source; Sanjay Jha, CEO of chip fabricator and AMD spinoff GlobalFoundries, says his company is working directly with Tesla; GlobalFoundries also has a supply agreement with AMD; the source says more than 50 people are working in Tesla’s initiative to develop its own AI chip.
۷- Airbnb rolls out restaurant booking; powered by hospitality tech company Resy, in which Airbnb invested $13M early this year; Airbnb provides restaurant recommendations within its Trips feature; the in-app reservations feature is currently limited to the US.
۸- Nest announces $500 alarm system, Nest Secure; includes Nest Guard: a hub with backup battery that connects various Nest devices; if Wi-Fi is down, Guard can send alerts via cellular ($5 per month); also includes 2 Nest Detects, which monitor door and window activity; comes with two Nest Tags: NFC chips that can be used for security access on a permanent or temporary basis; available in November.
