Tech Daily with Goldman Sachs and Uber
۱- Brazil-based logistics platform CargoX raises $20M Series C led by Goldman Sachs with participation from Soros and others; the firm matches shippers with truckers who have excess vehicle capacity; raised $34M to date.
۲- Analytics firm Crux Informatics raises $10M led by Goldman Sachs; provides data management tools to banks and other financial institutions.
۳- Data accessibility and search company Elastic acquires Swiftype, which provides search products for organizational use and for public-facing sites; terms undisclosed; Swiftype already uses Elastic for indexing and storing search content; Elastic has raised $104M; Swiftype previously raised $22.2M.
۴- China-based electric car startup Nio (formerly NextEV) raises $1B Series D on a $5B valuation, according to Reuters sources; the round was led by Tencent with participation from Lone Pine Capital, Baillie Gifford, and others; Nio is set to launch a fully-electric SUV in December.
۵- Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says SoftBank’s investment (which is reportedly valued at $10B) hasn’t yet closed, but will; previous reports indicated SoftBank might instead invest in Lyft; Khosrowshahi also says the company is targeting 2019 for an IPO, and that Uber currently experiences all of the disadvantages of being public but none of the advantages.
۶- Hong Kong-based fintech startup WeLab raises $220M Series B (second tranche) led by the International Finance Corporation and Alibaba; the firm operates a range of mobile lending services across Greater China; raised $425M to date.
۷- Electronic Arts ($35B market cap) acquires video game studio Respawn Entertainment for $315M in cash and stock, and up to $140M in earn-outs; EA EVP Patrick Soderlund said his company’s other studios, like DICE have BioWare, have retained artistic freedom and integrity, which has resulted in great games; Respawn is known for the “Titanfall” series.
۸- Apple ($900B market cap) acquires InVisage Technologies, producer quantum dot-based image sensors; provides software and hardware imaging solutions for small devices, and for capturing images in low-light environments; previously raised $98M.
