۱- Oracle announces enterprise blockchain service OpenWorld; claims to offer secure, end-to-end blockchain app development platform built on the open source Hyperledger Fabric Project; includes transaction monitoring and processing.
۲- Former Facebook and Google employees launch cryptocurrency index fund, Bitwise Asset Management; is a market cap-weighted basket of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by network value; backed by Angellist founder Naval Ravikant; aims to emulate the S&P index.
۳- Live streaming platform Twitch opens official merchandise e-commerce store; features branded clothing, home goods, and community-inspired items; can be purchased with an Amazon account and are also discoverable on Amazon’s store.
۴- Apple posts source code of kernel for both macOS and iOS on GitHub; also shared version for ARM chips for the first time; reason for decision to include this version is unclear.
۵- Western Digital initially offered Toshiba $13B for its memory chip division, according to Bloomberg sources; Western Digital CEO Stephen Milligan made the offer in April, advising Toshiba it would also use a jointly-owned plant to block a sale to any other party; the business was eventually sold to a Bain Capital-led consortium for $18B.
۶- Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi expresses his “disappointment” over Travis Kalanick’s appointment of two new board members; in a note to staff, Khosrowshahi says Kalanick made the move without notifying him first, calling it “highly unusual”.
۷- Robotics process automation firm Kryon raises $12M Series A led by Aquiline Technology Growth and Vertex Ventures; provides software that automates labor intensive tasks; raised $13M to date.
۸- Finland-based VR startup Varjo raises $8.2M Series A led by EQT Ventures with participation from Lifeline Ventures and others; the firm is developing a high-resolution headset aimed at enterprise customers.
۹- Roku updates its product lineup; $50 Roku Streaming Stick adds voice control via the remote, while $70 Roku Streaming Stick Plus also has HDR and 4K Ultra HD support; $30 Roku Express and $40 Roku Express Plus now have faster processors; Roku Ultra drops to $100 (previously $130); the firm is also rolling out Roku OS 8 which includes single sign-on for roughly 30 paid TV channels; available now.
